My summer staples
I am slowly dipping my feet in the reemerging trend of high waisted clothing, with vintage inspired wrap skirts. I have wanted to make myself one of these skirts for a couple of years now, but just recently, I wished I had made them this spring, got around to it. I found this great pattern on Ebay and used it for my first try at it.
I chose this light denim fabric to make it look and feel like I bought it second hand.
For my next try, I used only the skirt pattern pieces, and modernized the rest of it. I put on a real waistband with belt loops, made the pockets smaller and more rounded, and shortened it.
I should be able to get quite a bit of mileage out of these through fall, maybe by then I will have worked my way up to high waisted pants, but probably not.

Those skirts are both really cute Alysha. You have such a long thin torso you could pull off anything high-waisted you lucky girl!

May I echo Erin in saying that with your long and skinny torso you can totally get away with wearing high-waisted skirts or pants and the ones you have made look absolutely fabulous on you. So cute. I love. Just imagining me in anything high wasted gives me a cold shiver. Mainly because I worry that my bra and the high waist would over lap and I can't think that is a look that I could just 'pull off.' But you my darling, you look fantastic.
why yes, Eddie 3x's, I am addicted. I have a lot of backlogging to do too this week, lots I need to document. The way I think of it is, every year after this one, after I have printed this whole thing out, and my memory is refreshed, I will be so happy that I was crazy diligent about it. But that's just kinda who I am, obsessive.
Seriously, your sewing skills amaze me. I should sew more...someday.
Great job on the skirt, Mrs skinny pants. When and where can I find your clothes in the salt lake area?
really cute skirts. I have been working on a similar one and have gotten stuck. Where are you when I need you? Oh yeah, NYC.
i'm So glad high-waisted skirts are in. i'm tired of everything being "low fitting" and stuff :( my hips just don't like it.
