Saturday is a special day

I love them all, whether we plan a New York adventure or just enjoy our home and neighborhood, they just don't come often enough. This past Saturday was wonderful, the air, each other, good food, friends, and fall.

After my run, I met the boys at the farmers market for our weekly picks of apples & vegetables.

I never buy any of the baked goods but I always pick out my favorites.

And of course hot apple cider and donuts. They hit the spot every time.

After the market we napped, watched Gilmore Girls, and baked Pumpkin Bread.

We then headed to the Brooklyn Museum for a children's book signing.

Feeling too much pressure to buy, we bolted to the library for a few hours.

And the rest of the evening?
Thai food, and staying up till midnight talking with good friends.

Break needed

Just a few days off. The dress I am working on is stressing me out. I thought making some of these little guys would cheer me up. And they have.

They so remind me of all the Sanrio characters I love so much. Hence, the My Melody wannabe with the pink ears. I might be one of the only grown adults that still collects Hello Kitty paraphernalia. Every time I see the Hello Kitty waffle iron, phone, and alarm clock I try to imagine in my head how I could make it work with the mid-century decor we have going on. Even if I have a little girl someday, I can't see myself or Tom letting me decorate her room in pink (my favorite color) and hello kitty, even though I LOVE it. So instead, I will have little things like these as accents in my life. A little felt animal here, a hello kitty watch there, you know.

If you want to make yourself one of these cuties, they come from this book. I picked it up when I was visiting Chicago last spring, but procrastinated actually doing something with it. Glad I finally did, they're addicting.

Morning routines

This is our favorite part of the morning. We are enjoying it for now, cause in a few months morning strolls in the cold wet air and snow won't be so nice.

At least I am ahead.

As soon as I saw my friend Robin today she quickly asked if I had read the article in New York Magazine highlighting some of the top ugly shoes in history. She knew I would find this particularly interesting being that the Salt Water sandal, my favorite summer shoe, of which I own three pairs, has been predicted as the "ugly shoe" of 2008. Comforting.

Oh "thank you" fall

Dear Fall,

I wanted to write you this post to thank you for being my very favorite season, especially here in New York.

Thank you for this lovely golden landscape that kept me distracted from my lack of ability to run around the park this morning, after taking a month hiatus. Thank you also for the crisp air that kept my face a light shade of pink rather than a sweaty bright red.

Thank you for growing such a great variety of crisp delicious apples. They are a fall staple around our house.

Thank you for giving me the excuse to finally wear jackets, scarves, and tights.

And oh thank you for the fashion. Thank you for providing impulse seattle with such beautiful clothing. Thank you for being the inspiration behind the richness in fabric, colors, and texture I so enjoy to wear.  Thank you for helping me "break the bank" each time you come around.

But what I don't thank you for is the season that follows you, it's my least favorite. But I guess you can't help that.

Love,
Alysha
