A concert, shop update, and vacation

I'll start with last night.

Death_Cab_for_Cutie

Cold, wet, and crowded. So crowded. I knew these guys had made it big, but I was really taken back by how many kids love them as much and if not more than I do.  They easily filled up the entire field of grass, mainly with teenagers and parents of kids too young to go by themselves. I felt old, ready to leave by 9:30, but when they came back for the encore they gave a shout out to those of us that saw them play 8 years ago at Kilby Court, a venue that doesn't hold more than 60 people, I swelled with pride and rocked out the last fifteen minutes with them. Despite the age gap between myself and their fan base though, I won't stop going. This was my 6th concert with them, and not my last. I'll most likely be that mom who insists on going to rock shows with her son, even when he begs her not to.

I plan on putting some new stuff in the shop next Wednesday the 4th at 2pm Pacific Standard time. Little smocky dresses and skirts for the girls, a few new ties for the boys, and maybe something for the mama. Check back, I'm finally using some of the fabric I have been stashing.

And today we are off to California. A vacation mainly sparked by the opportunity to see REM, the National, and Modest Mouse in concert. REM is on my short list of bands I have to see before I die, and when I heard they were skipping SLC, I invited myself, Luke and Tom to California to see it with Wade and Kath, dear friends we haven't seen in a very long time. We are beyond excited. We haven't been on a vacation in over year, and California in over seven, so we are headed out in a few hours. Our first stop, Circus Circus, then Laguna Beach for a few days with our friends Brooke, John, Cash, and Ruby, oh how we've missed them since they left us last November. Knotts berry farm, H&M, Modernica, and  the Purl warehouse are also on our list of stops this week. Oh man...I'm excited!

I will *definitely* be checking out your shop for your new update—I love the dress!

And when I saw the name 'Wade and Kath' I whispered an obscenity of joy—I also know Kath and Wade, but particularly Kath.

I'm off to tell her hello!

Hey, just to clarify: You can't like show up at the Purl Warehouse and shop. It's just where they process all the web orders.. they don't do any retail there. Do you think Alysha will be so sad when she arrives here in a few hours? (I can't wait to see you Alysha!)

omygosh! zane totally spotted a kids' tiger muscle shirt at h&m just like the one in the photo above (only minus sleeves) and he wanted it SO BAD. I had to lay down the law in the middle of the store about no boys in muscle shirts in my house and here it turns out he was ready for the cutting edge of rock fashion and I didn't even know it. bad mommy.

I hope you are traveling safe. Or back to traveling safe. And I say no fair to all the bands you are seeing. It's totally crazy how DCFC has suddenly found this young fan base, but they still rock and I'm glad you got to enjoy them even in the rain. And you will SO be that mom, and I will forever love it. "Luke, I will not be in the way. And yes I must bring with me my sewing. Because there are breaks in between rocking out. Luke you must understand I was rocking out way before you were. Luke. Luke get back here. Luke. Luke. Luke. Well then I will just see you there if you insist on us taking separate cars. Of course we'll sit together. Why would we not sit together? Now you are just being unreasonable." Ah it will be fun.

Have fun with your friends.

i totally relate to your experience - when a very pregnant melisa and i went to see dcfc in the nokia theater in dallas a couple years back....

all the kids sing along to the new stuff... but i enjoyed when they dusted off old tunes that the youngins remained quiet during.

i'll still go to.

I remember going to their free concert at the U's Crimson nights. They play a great set.

Have you ever heard of The Grand National or Pinback? I think you might like them a lot.
