Remodel: Kitchen

We aren't  completely done with our house. I don't know if we ever will be really. There is quite a bit more time, money, and resources that are required when renovating a house vs. an apartment. I'm happy with the progress though.

The kitchen is the most complete of our home. I refused to move in until it was finished. I'm so in love with it. We really lucked out in our neighborhood. Our kitchen is an add on so it is at least three times the size of most, not to mention I only had 60 inches of cooking space in my last apartment, so this is a dream. If I only had the time now to actually cook in it.

I only have two before pictures. We were not big fans of the layout. It didn't seem to maximize the space, you can't see beyond the bar, but there is about 10 feet of extra space. We could have put a little kitchen table there, but we knew we wanted a separate dining area which is adjacent to the kitchen, and two tables near each other would have been a little strange. And lets be honest, we weren't huge fans of the cabinets.

We almost gutted the entire kitchen. We flipped the layout switching the oven range and fridge. All of the cabinets are from Ikea, and the countertop is a Silestone from Home Depot. We also replaced the tile with hardwood floor to match the rest of the first floor.

alysha, that looks amazing! i love your taste. and i agree with you on kitchens being important, even if you don't get the chance to cook in them that often. i've turned my nose up at many a place because of how yucky the kitchens are. yours is fabulous.

LOVE! What a great before and after. So smart to move the range to the other side of the kitchen... and then add that shelf to that side. It really opens the whole space up. Smart, smart, smart. Great job! Wish my husband was handy. :)

hi alysha.

ok. first, thanks for the sweet comment and stopping by to say hello.
and second! i WANT that kitchen! i can only imagine the day we get out of our little 450 sq foot nyc apartment just for a decent kitchen, perhaps a second closest and a place for a big kitchen table. in the meantime, i'll just have to come look at these fabulous kitchen photos of yours to hold me over.

Haha. Katie wants to sleep on the counter. I now have a wonderful visual of Katie curled up on the counter with a blanky and it is really making me chuckle.

It truly is a wonderful new kitchen. Tom really did an excellent job. Every time I visit I say or will say or will continue to say 'how very grand'. Okay, I have never used the word grand, I just for a second wanted to pretend I was Lucille Austero for a minute. Which isn't really appropriate since her kitchen had the exact opposite problem of yours in that hers suddenly started getting smaller, yours is nice and big (so big Katie and the kids, and maybe even Chip if find him one long stretch, can nap there).

I think you guys both had a great, 'vision' with your layout. I remember when you first started discussing it. You really did take something ordinary and completely switch it all around and make it into a very cool, modern looking (but not too much, if you know what I mean), space. 180 degrees different. And I love it. You have so much space now you have to buy more stuff to use up all the cabinets. Here here to no longer having to use the stove as storage!

YOU GUYS this is amazing! You both have amazing vision to look at the before and figure out how to change the space. You should do this for a living!

Wow! So impressed. You should be on HGTV (my latest obsession!)
What a difference from your Brooklyn home. Can't wait to see it in real life.
Missed you Alysha the other night at your Mom and Dad's. It was fun to see Luke in his adorable "skinny jeans." He is such a cute kid. He was so cute to the "babies" Indie and Beckam. It was fun to get caught up with Tom. I will look forward to another opportunity to be together soon. You Mom did her usual - FABULOUS!! Love from all at this Smith House.
