Marking the last

And this, I'm happy about. I love sewing, I love making new clothes, but what I don't love is my working space. I won't miss sitting on a bar stool, sewing on a 12' inch wide counter, packing up each time I want to make lunch or dinner, cutting fabric on the floor, accidentally turning on my cook-top when I set down my scissors, ironing in the middle of the kitchen, and finding thread in my food.

I had Tom take these photos so I can always keep things in perspective. I can't wait for my own work space. A must have in our hunt for a new house.

And I had to get one more easy project in before I boxed her up. My friend Amy gave me some of her gauzy plaid fabric that I had been drooling over for weeks, and I couldn't wait to make something out of it, even amidst the boxes and mess. Luckily BBW's pattern #3835 is a snap. It's simple base provides so many options for different and unique tops, tunics, and dresses. It's my favorite of her patterns, and it only took me a couple of hours.

The lightweight loose style and fabric

of the shirt will be great for summer and layered with a light cardigan, perfect for spring.

I feel like a stalker. I JUST made a similar top from the same pattern, in a similar color (although not plaid, because that scares my newbie self!). Anyhow, yours is so, so lovely. That plaid is to die for.

Here's to a larger sewing space.

I sewed a tonne over the holidays and remembered how much I love to do it. Now I just need to get brave and sew a piece of clothing for myself.

One house I had my heart set on (but the sale feel through twice) won me at the fold-down sewing machine. It was like a murphy bed, the machine was attached to a fold down table, next to shelves, cubby holes, and cupboards for all our supplies and fabrics. This was in between the kitchen and the living room, so it was the perfect place to sit and craft while being in the middle of both spaces. The husband had created the area custom for his wife who sewed.

It broke my heart not to get that house, but now I know what I want in my dream house.

That shirt is too cute. And I have to laugh at little Lukey sneaking in to the picture. You look darling.

I am glad you acutally like wearing the stuff you make. I don't always like the fit of things once they are finished. It never seems to be quite the same as when you buy it.
