A few reasons I love my neighborhood

Just two years ago we left our quaint cute neighborhood of Park Slope to become official home owners in  the neighborhood of Prospect Heights. Prospect Heights. Some great parts, and some not so great, like like our street, Washington Avenue. Picture a street lined with liquor shops, beauty parlors, and unemployed people just hanging out, with what it seems like, nothing better to do.  Luckily, we do have our friend Chip who is aggressively working to change it by accosting every business owner on Washington Avenue, offering plenty of unsolicited advice. If only they would listen.

There is a silver lining though. Besides the fact our best friends live just two streets away, lucky them too, just one additional block away are the things I will miss most not only about Brooklyn, but New York. I will start with the Brooklyn Museum.

This is just a few feet away from us. Every first Saturday of the month they throw a huge party from 5pm-11pm. Admission is free, they play fun dance music, and serve drinks. And one of my favorite things about it is, it attracts a pretty great crowd. In addition, at least once a week Tom, Luke, Addy, and I just come here to hang out on the grass and watch the fountains. Sometimes if they are lucky, I pack a lunch.

Lucky for us, right next to the museum is the Brooklyn Botanic Gardens. I love coming here mainly for the fact for just a minute I forget where I am. I love New York, but sometimes I hate it too. The Botanic Gardens especially in the spring, are like heaven. Note the azalea's, peony's, and wisteria. There is also a Japanese pond where giant fish wait for little ones to feed them big hunks of bread. Unfortunately for them, Luke's bread never makes it to the water.

A few other honorable mentions in my neighborhood go to the Brooklyn Library, almost done with its renovations, Tom's diner, and quite possibly the prettiest subway station entrance in New York, the Brooklyn Museum stop.

Even I have to admit you make a convincing arguement on reasons to love your neighborhood, or maybe you just took some really good pictures. I kid. I kid. Although SLC has some of those things. Let's see.... well no, we don't have a Chip just around the corner, at least not one who is incredibly skinny & eats jewelry. And we certainly don't have a Chip who is married to your BFF and if we did, I so totally would have already claimed them. I don't think we have a museum but we totally have fountains to play in, but I'm pretty sure they don't have parties. But I've seen plenty of sack lunches so you can still picnic. But there isn't any grass for you & Lukey to lay down in, just wet cement, which is almost as comfortable. And Lysh, must I remind you that mom plants? It's no 'garden' by any stretch of the imagination but you don't even have to walk up a slight hill, just open the door and look out & you can see some of mom's potted flowers. Sure the deer like to take a bite out of 'em thus leaving huge pots and lots of dirt with maybe a small root growing out, but still, it's right there for all to enjoy. And we don't need a pretty subway station, we have a nice, quaint little garage that you can just drive right in, how fun is that? Top that. I want to see you try and top that.

I'm usually totally against clogs, or whatever they are called, but Lukey's orange colored ones are to die for cute. And I love the pic of him trying to guide Addy. And from the way it was taken it makes Addy look like a giant dog, which makes the picture all the more awesome. And I'll once again (I need to be quicker in responding to your posts, or stop getting sick so I can read these in a more timely matter) I echo other's thoughts. You do look super pretty & even yes elegant, and yes as I've said before, super tiny. And may I be the first, at least here, to mention Tom's new hair cut. Tom, awesome hair cut. You look great, although not that elegant, but I can't pull off elegant either.
