Day 6
I really should appreciate that Luke doesn't wake us up at the crack of dawn to open his Christmas presents. But instead I found myself waking up, and going back to sleep, reminiscent of my childhood, just hoping Luke would wake up a bit earlier than usual. He didn't, so I just lied awake in bed until his little head popped up from his crib.
He was as excited as I could have hoped. It didn't take much encouragement for him to begin playing with his unwrapped toy piano and scooter. We really could have just stopped there. But we couldn't help ourselves this year. He went crazy, opening all of the gifts. Each one getting at least 10 minutes of play time with.
Tom and I didn't exchange gifts this year so we only had a few gifts from family members to open, all of which were lovely. Thank you everyone!! We both agreed that instead of buying gifts for each other, we would spend the money on doing fun New York things. We have certainly spent more than our fair share so far, but it has been worth it, and I think more memorable than any Christmas so far.
I spent the rest of the morning baking and baking for our traditional Christmas brunch. I always get carried away, but I so love Christmas brunchy food, so yummy. And Christmas day wouldn't be complete without the Riches. We try to spend at least 75% of the day together, and usually do a pretty good job. Christmas won't be the same without them. Katie made a yummy egg dish and a cranberry coffee cake. I contributed a pumpkin cream cheese roll, a peppermint sweet roll, German pancakes, egg and ham muffin quiches, and eggnog bread.
I would have taken more pictures but I left that up to Katie and her brand new drool worthy camera. She will have to post pictures of the event when she writes her Christmas retrospective, can't wait Katie! We ate and ate, and even finished off the day with Brooklyn churned peppermint ice cream.
Christmas always comes and goes so fast. This year we are trying to spread it out a bit, and I definitely recommend it. So since we are still celebrating, I wish everyone a Merry Christmas!
I leave you with video footage of Luke on his new scooter. He is good, a natural really. He will be riding a two wheeler no doubt before he turns three.

You inspire me with your New York activities. Though we are here for the long haul (I hope!), we must make a list like yours and check everything off. Merry, merry!
I truly loved reading all of your Christmas fun recaps. I am jealous. You better be getting geared up next year for the lights at temple square. Luke looks so old on his scooter. That was the cutest video. He is good on that thing. What a cutie!
Lukey was spoiled! And of course I have to notice how perfectly wrapped everything (of his, since the only thing you guys got was from family and I don't know about the Bean's but heaven's knows the Smith family don't wrap like that) is. I'm sure he noticed how color coordinated everything was. And I can still not get over how absolutely adorable Lukey is on that scooter. He is a pro. No fear and a little speedster. Just like his Auntie... Whitney cause even at my age I'd probably be sitting down on that thing scooting myself along.
Your breakfast brunch sounds delicious, with the exception of the egg and ham quiche. Why ruin a perfectly good quiche by putting in pig? I don't understand. And I hope one of the Riches got naked because it wouldn't be Christmas, or at least a true "Riches" experience if at least one of them didn't get down into their skivvies. My bet is on Chip this year. And I look forward to seeing even better pictures of the food with Kate's drool worthy new camera. I'm sure it makes the ham really pop out of the quiche.
we love you guys. i can't think about what we are going to do without you next year () without getting teary. maybe we can lure you back??. . . so i'll just say that the food, which i ate about seven servings of, was delicious, luke is amazing on that thing and the lazy christmas day spent with the beans is always heaven.
I love that scooter and that video. So much, in fact, I just made an impulse buy. You should tell that to the company and maybe they will send your kid a bunch of free stuff. Great blog - I love hearing updates of your family. Curt Leonard.
While you might be sad about moving back to Utah, your family is not. However, we will miss these fun blogs and your high NY life! I am anxious however to see what you can create out of Zion. ??Will you still call yourselves the Brooklyn Beans? or will you adopt the name of Rose Park Relocates or Sugarhouse Smiths aka Beans?
Though it will be difficult to come home you will have many wonderful memories and friends that will last forever. Distance is no longer that with the use of e-mail, phones, and cheap flights.
We are looking forward also to a Christmas with Luke and the excitement that only comes from little ones.
Happy New Year!
